Volume Check

1. Using the Physical Volume Buttons (Quickest Method)

  • Press the upper volume button (the one closer to the top/power button) to increase the volume.

  • Press the lower volume button to decrease the volume.

  • Hold the button down to continuously adjust.

  • On the iPad 10th generation, the buttons use fixed positioning by default: the button closer to the top/power button always increases volume, regardless of orientation (portrait or landscape).

    • If the behavior feels reversed in some orientations, go to Settings > Sounds and toggle Fixed Position Volume Controls on or off to customize it.

A volume overlay appears briefly on the screen showing the change.

**2. Using Control Center (No Buttons Needed) **

*****Not Available in Kiosk mode

  • Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.

  • Find the volume slider (it looks like a speaker icon with a bar).

  • Drag the slider up to increase volume or down to decrease it.

  • This works even when the iPad is locked or in an app.

**3. Adjusting Ringer and Alerts Volume (for Notifications/Sounds) **

*****Not Available in Kiosk mode

  • Open the Settings app.

  • Tap Sounds (or Sounds & Haptics depending on your iPadOS version).

  • Under Ringtone and Alerts, drag the volume slider to adjust.

  • Optional: Turn Change with Buttons on if you want the physical volume buttons to also control ringer/alert volume (instead of just media).

Additional Tips

*****Not Available in Kiosk mode

  • If volume seems too low: Check for a volume limit in Settings > Sounds > Volume Limit (if enabled, drag the slider higher or turn it off).

  • For apps like videos or music players: Some apps have their own in-app volume sliders—adjust those separately if the main volume is maxed but sound is still quiet.

  • Using headphones/AirPods? Volume adjusts the same way, but ensure Bluetooth connection is strong and no low-volume mode is active.

  • If buttons don't work: Restart your iPad or check Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch for any custom volume controls.
