Instructions to Disable Pop-Up Blockers in Different Browsers
Below are step-by-step instructions for disabling pop-up blockers in major web browsers. Note that disabling pop-up blockers can expose you to unwanted ads or potential security risks, so consider allowing pop-ups only for trusted sites where necessary. Instructions are for desktop versions and may vary slightly by operating system or browser version.
Google Chrome
By default, Chrome blocks pop-ups. You can change this globally or for specific sites.
Open Chrome.
At the top right, click the three dots (More) > Settings.
Click Privacy and security > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects.
Under Default behavior, select "Sites can send pop-ups and use redirects" to allow pop-ups globally.
For a specific site:
Next to "Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects," click Add, enter the site's URL (e.g., [*.]example.com for all subdomains), and click Add.
Mozilla Firefox
Firefox blocks pop-ups by default. You can disable it entirely or allow exceptions.
To disable globally:
Open Firefox.
Click the menu button (three lines) at the top right > Settings.
Select Privacy & Security on the left.
Scroll to Permissions.
Uncheck the box next to "Block pop-up windows" to disable the blocker.
To allow for specific sites (while keeping the blocker enabled):
In Privacy & Security > Permissions, click Exceptions... next to Block pop-up windows.
Enter the website address and click Allow.
Click Save Changes.
Troubleshooting: If pop-ups still don't appear, check for malware, ensure the site isn't blocked, or note that some pop-ups triggered by clicks may still work. Non-pop-up ads (like overlays) aren't affected.
Microsoft Edge
Edge blocks pop-ups by default. You can turn off blocking globally or allow specific sites.
To turn off globally:
Open Edge.
Click the three dots (Settings and more) at the top right > Settings.
Select Cookies and site permissions on the left (or Privacy, search, and services).
Click Pop-ups and redirects.
Toggle "Block (recommended)" to off.
To allow for a specific site:
In the same section, under "Allow," click Add.
Enter the URL (including https://) and click Add.
Apple Safari (on Mac)
Safari manages pop-ups on a per-website basis; there is no global toggle to disable the blocker entirely. By default, it blocks pop-ups for most sites.
To allow pop-ups for a specific website:
Open Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar > Settings (or Preferences).
Click the Websites tab.
Select Pop-up Windows on the left sidebar.
In the Currently Open Websites section (or Configured Websites), select the site from the list.
Choose "Allow" from the dropdown menu next to it.
