Device Enrollment

Device enrollment can largely be thought of in two main steps.

  • Assigning an iPad to Apple Business Manager account

  • Configure in SOTI

Let’s dive into each one.

✋ This first step can be skipped if the iPad is already in the Hearo Apple Business Manager account. To check, login and search for the last 4 of the device serial number. If the device is available, move to Assign Device Management

1 - Assigning an iPad to Apple Business Manager account

There are two ways to make this happen.

  • Manually with Apple Configurator (iPhone app)

  • By ordering through a reseller account that has been established in our Apple Business Manager

**ℹ️ **The iPad must be at the Hello/´Setup screen which is only seen in the out-of-box state or when an iPad has been erased. If this an LTE iPad, be sure to keep the ESIM profile when erasing.

Once you reach the Hello screen you are good to start the process of adding into Apple Business Manager. This will be performed with an iPhone that has the Apple Configurator app installed and logged into the Hearo ABM account. Send a message in the SLS channel in Rocket Chat if assistance is needed with your ABM account.

At this screen, quickly press the Set Up Without Another Device text at the bottom - otherwise you may pick up your personal trying to overtake the process.

Remember to connect to the same network as your phone

I’m not sure this is necessary, haven’t tried enough times, but I feel like I have had to click the Back button in order for this next step to work. I could just be being impatient, though. As the next step does take a few moments.

Open the Apple Configurator app on your iPhone (which is on the same network, yes??). The app will have a little view finder where it’s looking for the magic dots on the iPad screen. This can take 10 seconds or so for the iPad to recognize the phone.

You might be prompted to sign-in to ABM again.

And then, once you hit this screen you must Erase the iPad another time. The next time the iPad reboots and connects to WiFi/Cellular it will attempt to check-in to Apple Business Manager and see what MDM server to configure itself to. So, before that happens, this Device must be assigned in the ABM account.

Select ‘Erase iPad’ Ipad will reboot back to welcome screen

Note: The iPad will be loaded into ABM at this time.

Assign Device Management

Search for the device by serial number (last four is always enough)

Find and **Assign Device Management **and set the service to SLS SOTI

Ordering through reseller

If you find an iPad dealer that you like working with, we can add their reseller number to our account so that when ordered, they are automatically enrolled into ABM.
